What to bring, what we provide, and how we run a charter day on Lake Michigan or the Bay.
Quick orientation so you show up ready for the water. Anything else, give Captain Adam a call.
Seasonal clothing (lake temps run 10–15° cooler than land), sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, soft-soled shoes (no work boots), camera, and a cooler for your catch. Fishing license with Great Lakes Stamp unless included in a Deluxe Package.
Captain and mate, top-tier rods, reels, tackle, and electronics. Proper care and icing of your catch. Coffee and donuts on every morning charter. Enclosed heated/AC cabin and onboard restroom.
Lake Michigan out of Algoma City Marina (June 1 – Oct 1) and the Bay of Green Bay out of the City of Green Bay (May 1 – June 1). Door County ice fishing throughout winter.
Not seeing your question? Call the boat — we’d rather talk it through.
We can accommodate up to 6 guests aboard the “We’re On!” — although there’s a lot of extra space, the United States Coast Guard limits the number of passengers on a charter to 6.
You can purchase your two-day Great Lakes Fishing Stamp and License online through the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, or Bay Lake Charters carries two-day licenses on the boat. Charter Packages have licenses included.
We typically leave the dock an hour before sunrise to ensure we’re on the morning bite for King Salmon, but will leave anytime your group wishes. If we have an afternoon charter booked, we need to be back in before that group’s scheduled departure. Discuss timing with Captain Adam when booking. Afternoon charters leave the dock at noon.
Yes — the fish still bite in the rain, but it’s ultimately your choice if you want to hold off on leaving the dock until the rain passes. Captain Adam will work with groups to reschedule if he feels inclement weather is making it unsafe to be on the water.
Yes. The cabin of the boat is enclosed and our onboard generator allows us to control heat and AC during trips.
Yes. Only marine-grade paper products should be flushed in the onboard toilet. Heavy items like paper towel or feminine hygiene products will clog the septic system. Trash receptacles are provided and should be used for these items.
Absolutely. We kindly ask that you be mindful of food items brought onboard — try not to bring anything generally messy or that creates a lot of crumbs, and please clean up after yourself. Trash bags are provided. No glass. Alcohol should be consumed in moderation; unruly behavior will not be tolerated. Illicit drugs are not allowed.
Always consult your physician first, but many clients find it helpful to take an over-the-counter medication (Dramamine, Bonine) before symptoms start, allowing it to work in your system well before boarding. Other tips: have food in your stomach, soda crackers and ginger ale can be lifesavers, avoid excessive alcohol and strong food odors, choose a seat with the least motion (don’t face backwards), don’t read on the boat if you’re prone, and keep your gaze on a fixed point such as the horizon.
You can take your fish with you between trips and store on ice in a cooler.
Tipping 15–20% is customary in the charter industry. Captain Adam and his first mate will go out of their way to make sure your charter is a success and provide service that other operations don’t.
Being just 15 miles south of Door County and 30 miles east of Green Bay, there’s an abundance of activity surrounding Algoma. We recommend the Door County Visitor Bureau and TripAdvisor – Door County. Some of our favorites: Lambeau Field (home of the Green Bay Packers), Peninsula State Park, Fish Creek, the many beaches, wineries, and tourist attractions of Door County. Captain Adam has great recommendations and can help you plan your perfect vacation.
A deposit is required to confirm your charter (Deluxe Packages: $400). Refunds are available only if poor weather conditions make your fishing trip unsafe and the trip cannot be rescheduled.
